and Geometry
Daily Materials:
1 Spiral Notebook or Binder with Loose leaf Paper, Pencil, Math Book, Scientific Calculator (optional)
Daily Routine:
Logic Problem, Check Homework, Continued or New Lesson, Homework Assignment
Grading Procedures:
**Logic Problems, Worksheets and Homework 55%**
Class will begin each day with five to eight minutes of quiet focus on the day’s logic problem. These problems are given to build the student’s ability to think creatively and in logical, sequential steps. Logic problems will be collected daily. If a student is tardy, they will receive their logic problem from Mrs. Brady marked with a “T.” These students will still be required to turn in their problem, but they will not receive credit. While students are working on their logic problem, they should have their homework out on their desk to be checked in. All daily assignments will be checked in as complete and on-time (4 out of 4), almost complete and on-time (3 out of four), half complete and on-time (2 out of 4), barely complete and on-time (1 out of 4), or complete and late (3 out of 4). A completed homework assignment does not have to be 100% correct, it simply must have all questions answered or attempted with work to support their effort. Late homework acceptance has two deadlines: the progress marking period and the quarter marking period.
Worksheets will be assigned throughout the year. Worksheets are graded for accuracy and should be given the necessary effort and attention for the students to receive the most credit possible. Oftentimes, there is time to start working in class. Mrs. Brady is always available to answer questions and give further instruction should a student desire extra help or clarification.
**Classroom Participation 10%**
Classroom participation is based on each student’s involvement in the class discussion, daily preparedness and general attitude in class.
**Homework and Chapter Quizzes 15%**
Homework Quizzes are designed to check the student’s understanding, listening skills, and organizational skills. Homework answers will be checked for accuracy in a class discussion format during which all students have the ability to correct their mistakes and refine their understanding. Homework Quizzes simply ask the students to transfer the answer of ten different questions from approximately five different assignments onto a separate sheet of paper. If students complete their homework, pay attention while the homework is being checked, and keep track of their homework assignments, their Homework Quiz scores should be 10 out of 10. Students are not permitted to use their books for a Homework Quiz.
Chapter Quizzes are usually given about half-way through the chapter and are a good way for the students to check their understanding before taking the test.
**Chapter Tests 20%**
Chapter Tests are given at the end of each chapter. The Chapter Test assesses the students’ knowledge and understanding of the entire chapter by providing 20 to 25 problems though which they are able to demonstrate their newly learned skills. Partial credit is given where available.
